When you are pregnant, you should eat only healthy food items. The same statement stands true even for beverages. Below we have discussed about the safe and beneficial drinks that women can have during their pregnancy.

Water

Expecting women must consume higher quantity of fluids compared to the women who are not pregnant. This is mainly because of the increase in volume of blood in their body. Drinking adequate amount of water will ensure that the pregnant woman does not encounter problems like dehydration and constipation, which are extremely common during pregnancy. If you don’t feel like having plain water; you can have 100% fruit juice instead. However, stay away from fortified waters as they might contain caffeine or other supplements that can harm the mother and the growing fetus. Also, avoid all beverages that contain added sugars.

Low fat or skim milk

The unborn babies need calcium for development of their teeth and bone. Milk is rich in calcium and thus is recommended to expecting women. If a pregnant woman consume adequate amount of milk, it will ensure that the heart, nerves and muscles of the baby in her womb is developing properly. A pregnancy diet plan must include a minimum of 2 to 3 glasses of low fat or skim milk.

Fruit juice

The daily diet of pregnant women should include fresh fruits in plenty. Fruits are sources of a number of key nutrients that the baby needs for proper growth. Pregnant women should take 100% fruit juices in moderation for obtaining essential nutrients like potassium and vitamin C. It is advisable that pregnant women do not take more than 1 serving of the 100% fruit juices per day as these juices are extremely high in calorie. Expecting mothers should stay away from all the fruit flavored beverages as majority of those drinks are filled with added sugars and do not contain any essential nutrient.
